Cabelas reports record quarterly results

Don't tell Cabelas we are in a recession.......

CABELA'S PROFIT JUMPS 40% IN THE FIRST QUARTER. . . Outdoor retailer Cabela's Inc. (NYSE:CAB) reported Thursday that first-quarter profit increased nearly 40 percent to $10 million, or 15 cents per share, compared to $7.1 million, or 11 cents per share, in the same period the previous year. Sales for the first quarter climbed 15.9 percent to $535.5 million, compared to $462.1 million in the same period a year ago.

GANDER MOUNTAIN RETURNS TO CATALOG BUSINESS...Outdoor retailer Gander Mountain Co. (NASDAQ:GMTN) announced its re-entry into the catalog business. The retailer, through its Overton's subsidiary, mailed out its first catalog in 12 years. It is also now offering its products online at Overtons.com. The company said its December acquisition of Overton's, a direct marketer of boating and marine products, was made to allow Gander Mountain to quickly reenter the direct marketing channel that it left in 1996, when it sold its catalog operation.
