BOHICA

From the National Association for Gun Rights - Gun Rights Alert

Title: Mayor Michael Bloomberg uses John McCain TV ad to promote gun control

"New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, founder of the anti-gun front group Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG), has released a TV calling for the closure of the so-called "gun show loop hole." The ad features footage of Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain, all expressing support for closing the "gun show loop hole." John McCain has long supported such anti-gun measures. In 2000, McCain did TV ads for George Soros funded anti-gun campaigns in Colorado and Oregon. View Bloomberg and MAIG's ad here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwzaivgpaDk"

If you think John "The Jackal" McCain is to be really trusted with supporting our 2nd amendment rights (as he purports in his NRA Convention speech) then you are in for a rude awakening. This is the man who muzzled First Amendment rights with his bipartisan McCain-Feingold law (I refuse to call this trashing of the First Amendment "campaign reform" ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipartisan_Campaign_Reform_Act

I know the man has been tortured serving his country in 'Nam and I respect all soldiers and their sacrifices for God and country. But this man has evidently been brainwashed by the enemy, whether foreign or (left wing) domestic. He is going to screw us gun owners just as hard as Obama or Ms. Clinton would, even if he wears a condom (i.e., cloak of the Republican: see, G.W. Bush, who has perfected the technique).......it's still a screwing all the same.

We've set the table for a dark chapter in our country's history these next few years. In my next post, I'm going to point the finger at who I think who has the lion's share of responsibility for the mess we are in (notwithstanding the liberal curse we have been infected with).

The Politics of Buying

Friends,

Today's post will be part comment, part rant, what I term a "commrantary" (pronounced comm-ran-tary).

I think it is important for the shooting fraternity to stick together and support each other. Despite the 300 million guns held by 80 million gun owners (or whatever the numbers may be) if you listen to the media and the politicians, us proud gunowners are a fringe element in society, a group whose time has passed, whose time of end is near. If you look at what the BATFE is doing to our dealers today, or what the presidential candidates we have might be doing to us in the future, it's not hard to see which way the winds are blowing.

I firmly believe in a free market economy, and for the right to choose wherever you want to spend your hard earned (and increasingly worthless) cash (sorry, I just read Ron Paul's The Revolution, A Manifesto, which has some very blunt analysis of what's happening to our money and our monetary policy that affects it.....this is must reading). I'm not going to tell you what to do, as I by nature do not like being told what to do (but I'm always willing to listen).

You've heard the term "voting with a conscience"..... another related term is "buying with a conscience". Given a close choice, I believe any self respecting gun owner should choose to support a business that supports your right to keep and bear arms. Why would you want to buy products from a company that doesn't support what you stand for? It's beyond me. Sadly, I see this every day.

For example, read this statement from the webpage of Robinson Armament http://www.robarm.com/ :

"We believe the right of the individual to bear arms is protected by the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. The right to keep and bear arms is not granted by the Constitution; it is a God given right which is simply affirmed by the Constitution."

Hot damn, based on that statement alone, I wanted to do business with Robarm. While the XCR isn't my cup of tea, I have bought the VEPR AK-47 from them, and I'm pleased with my purchase(s) and happy to support such a blatantly pro-gun business! Alex Robinson is a great American pro-gun businessman.

We are an optics business that caters to shooters, hunters, competitors, and professional operators. We are an enthusiastic supporter and vendor for Sniper's Paradise http://www.snipersparadise.com/, Sniper's Hide http://www.snipershide.com/. and CalGuns.net http://www.calguns.net/, The California Firearms Owner's Home On The Internet. We are currently courting sponsorship for the Pennsylvania Firearm Owners Association, a very active bunch of gunowners. We donate prizes to at least two competitive shooting matches a year. We elected to have a Bozeman, Montana shooting related products company host our website. Personally, I can be found at the range, burning powder, at least twice a month. When I shoot, I spend all day at the range. I love to shoot. As a business, we strive to find the absolute best quality optic for your rifle, purpose, and budget.

In short, we walk the walk.

Thus, I get a little bummed when patrons of these well known internet shooting sites will post and carry the flag for certain businesses that contribute little, if anything, to the shooting brotherhood....or worse, aren't even shooters themselves. Companies like OpticsPlanet.com, Binoculars.com, Optics4Birding.com, Opticssale.com, B&H Photo (New York) and Cameraland, New York. These are all probably great companies, with great discounts and deals and what nots, but nothing screams "I'm a weenie gun poser!" when a self professed gun owner/shooter goes to bat for these companies, when the exact same product can be found at a similar price, with as good or better service, from a business that really gives back to the shooting community, and, more importantly, owns guns, shoots guns, and stands up for guns ownership (sorry, expensive safari double rifles and hoity toity sporting clay shotguns don't count. Hunting isn't protected under the 2nd Amendent, nor are "legitimate sporting purpose" guns what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they drafted the 2nd).

Yes, I know CameraLand NY has a great reputation for taking care of their customers, and they attend NRA shows (not that it means anything) and are a Sniper's Hide sponsor, but can you even own a gun in New York City? Those guys get tons of business from their walk-in left wing chatting class clientele, they are all fat and happy millionaires, yet they get lots of business from self proclaimed riflemen all over the country. Good for them, but shame on their gun owning clients. Maybe these are the same folks who fell for the 'ol John Kerry duck hunting / shotgun bearing stunt a few years back. I don't know, but I do care.

The same principle applies to those who buy their guns from Walmart, just to save a few bucks (and in today's internet age, I mean a few bucks.) Now, we see Walmart has a new gun purchase policy that aligns themselves with Mayor Bloomturd's Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition and the insidious Americans for Gun Safety.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/al-norman/wal-mart-gun-policy-court_b_96674.html

My point is, that these types of businesses could give a rat's ass about your gun rights, but piously offer up guns and riflescopes for sale because it makes them money. OpticsPlanet.com even has a dba as Tactical-Store.com, as pathetic a smokescreen as any I've seen.

I realize that this commrantary will maybe appeal to only about 10% of you, and that's fine. It seems like only about 10% of Americans don't have their head up their asses anyway. We want to serve and do business with the true believers, gun weenies need not apply. Like Robinson Armament, we put our support and love for the 2nd Amendment (and our support for those who love the 2nd) in writing, right on our website. Dammit, Liberty Optics stands for something. Do you know what the above named optics businesses stand for? Do you even care?

I believe, in todays ultra competitive marketplace, and with our current political climate, real shooters should subscribe to a 5% Rule. The rule goes something like this: If confronted with a choice of buying a certain shooting related product, with similar levels of customer service behind it, and the choice is between a clearly pro-gun business and a "McStore", if the price difference is less than 5% in favor of the "McStore", you should always make the purchase with the pro-gun business. Such a "politic of buying" will only strengthen our brotherhood, and it will help ensure the perpetuation of gun related businesses in tough times.

Finally, just so you don't dismiss my post as a whiny, self serving diatribe designed to extract a pity purchase from the reader, I'll name some competitors that are worthy of your purchase dollars. I am not affiliated with these businesses and they do not even know I am naming them. So, go ahead and tell me to "pound sand". If you don't buy from me, on your next optics purchase, please give these estore guys a try:

CS Gunworks: http://www.csgunworks.com/ Owner Mike Cecil owns black guns, shoots black guns, and supports matches and our military. His prices and service are top rate. Great source for Nightforce NXS scopes.

SWFA: http://www.swfa.com/ Yes, the marketing face of the company is HTL (Hard To Love), but his smug mug is shown gun totin' and slayin' all kinds of critters. They also support our military. If you must buy from a "Big Box" store, SWFA should be it.

Dixie Ammo Dump - A brick and mortar store co-owned by two Devil Dogs. If you don't know what that means, better find out. Their website is http://www.armthepopulace.com/ Any questions?

Thanks for listening. Your comments are always welcome.

July 1 UPDATE

Folks,I need to clarify and expand on a few things. Specifically as it applies to Camera Land NY. First of all, I know Doug runs a good shop and is an extremely tough competitor. I think his knowledge of optics (Pentax excepting) is spot-on. He definitely has great connections and brings all kind of deals for the optics buying public. His customer service is good to go, given the fact he answers emails 16 hours a day. My previous criticism is not directed at Camera Land, or any other non-gun-supporting business. My message is, and always was, to the gun-owning, serious shooting public. My message is clear and unequivocal: Spend your money and give your support to truly pro-2nd-Amendement businesses, or suffer the longterm consequences. THINK about how you spend your money, and for what reason. The unavoidable fact is Camera Land is located in the heart of New York City, run by people who don't own guns, don't shoot, and don't hunt. I don't give a damn how much you see them on "all the hunting and shooting forums", what do they REALLY stand for? Do they have an unabashed and unequivocal support of the 2nd amendment written into their corporate policy? Of course not, such would alienate their liberal bird and bunny hugging constituents, the biggest source of their income (I speculate here). Sure, if you vote STRICTLY with your wallet, Camera Land has some phenomenal deals, brought to fruition by their big $$ and old school status in the optics business community. But, unlike Optics Planet, Optics4Birding, or the multitude of other optics sites that don't bother with shooting, hunting, or sniping sites because they remain true to their roots, the cynicism of Camera Land should put any serious gun owner on alert....what do they want from me, and why should I give them my hard earned cash??

Like it or not, we are a divided nation....comprised of those who own, shoot, and appreciate guns, and those who don't. It's really that simple. Why drink the Koolaid and join the family of those who aren't fully understanding of the firearms culture, when it is just as easy to support those who are firmly in your corner?? Beats me....

To all my brothers in arms, wake up! Smell the coffee. The aroma is unmistakeable...and irresistible...and those that are truly in your corner are ready to serve you...

I know it is questionable form for a business owner to espouse like this, and an attacking mode is not my true style. However, when it comes to RKBA, I make an exception. I want everyone to know exactly where I stand. My business is directed at the shooting public, of which I am an avid member. Such is my choice. I'm not going to be trolling birdwatcher.com or letstakepicturesofflowers.com, based on my principles. I simply wouldn't fit in.

I think in today's political climate, knowing where one stands on an issue like this is important. As usual, all of the above is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. Thank God for free speech!Don't forget to celebrate freedom this 4th of July. I'm done commenting on this matter. I've put it out there.

Thanks for your time and attention....comments welcome...

Take care, my friends.

Larue Tactical: Great products and people...we just can't sell them

Folks,

One company that has literally exploded onto the tactical/shooting scene is Larue Tactical http://www.laruetactical.com/ Located "Dead Center of Texas, USA", Larue makes very fine mounts, grips, rings and of course their famous sniper targets. While I'm not a fan of the vertical split-ring design, their quick detach (QD) mounts and rings have won praise as a reliable and precise mechanism that has earned envy in the industry. I spent a lot of time with these guys at the SHOT show and while I found them to be a touch on the arrogant side, they are some very patriotic, military supporting, hard working, and talented folks. More importantly, they are some shooting fools who train and burn lots of powder with their weapons. This is very important, IMO. We recommend their products, as do nearly all who have bought and used them.

The reason why we don't sell Larue Tactical products at Liberty Optics is that we are not allowed to. We asked, but they declined taking us onboard, stating that they are not taking new accounts at this time. I can actually understand, as they take care of our boys in the sandbox first, and probably have significant lead times on delivery for the commerical segment (see: Trijicon).

I can't speak of their service, but the way their stuff is built, you probably won't need to test it.

Kruger Optical announces the Lynx Spotter

Folks, here is a followup to the Kruger APR spotter blog entry posted on 4/30/08 below. It's the official Kruger Optics press release - Scott

"Kruger Optical introduces the Lynx Spotting Scope series with illuminated reticles for military, tactical markets

Advanced U.S. engineering is evident in the new Lynx Spotting Scope series, which Kruger Optical is introducing for military, tactical and sporting markets.

The Lynx scopes combine high-performance electronics with a rugged ergonomic design.

The product of three years of design work by Kruger Optical engineers, the new scopes feature an illuminated ranging reticle for accurate target acquisition. The mil-dot reticle enables the user to calculate a target’s distance (1 mark =1 yard at 1,000 yards). A single button controls the reticle’s brightness, with 10 distinct brightness settings for varying light conditions. Or, with the push of a button, the reticle can be removed from the field of view, for an unobstructed view of the target.

Scopes in the Lynx series are all variable power, so users can survey a wide field of view, then quickly zoom in on a target. The reticle ranges equally at all powers. The series features 7-25x50 and 14-50x60 models.

Kruger developed the series in response to a need in the market for a variable power scope with a reticle that could be turned on and off, said Kruger Optical president Mark Thomas.

“We believe this will fill a real need in the marketplace,” Thomas said. “This product fits in the palm of your hand, and it has been engineered for convenient use in the field with no loss of performance.”

Each scope is designed with an ambidextrous hand strap and thumb grip for convenient one-handed operation. It also includes a ¼-20 thread tripod mount.

Bill Phelan, Kruger Optical’s senior sales engineer for military and tactical, said the scope is extremely effective in the field.

“The Lynx is very lightweight and extremely rugged,” Phelan said. “With one hand you can easily use it for a quick target acquisition. The illuminated ranging reticle is sweet.”

With extra long 30mm eye relief, the scopes are designed to be used with goggles when needed. Scopes include Picatinny rails for mounting additional equipment such as tactical lights or laser sighting modules.

The microprocessor-controlled illumination electronics run on two AA batteries. Efficiently-designed electronics provide an extended battery life of more than 200 hours.

Scopes feature fully multicoated optics for optimum light transmission, and an internal Bak-4 prismatic focus system. They are waterproof and filled with dry nitrogen to ensure freedom from fogging.

Made from composite materials, the scope is rugged, lightweight and shockproof.

Also available without a reticle, scopes in this series are also an excellent choice for sportsmen due to their high performance optics and user-friendly design.

You can see the Lynx, along with Kruger’s full line of Columbia Sportswear Company branded optics at the NRA Annual Meeting and exhibition in Booth #2161.
